Our next destination was Slovenia, but to get there from the Istria region we needed to pass through the Italian city of Trieste. Chris and his son Malcolm had passed through there briefly some years ago, and now we had the time to stay a bit longer to explore the city.

We discovered that Trieste has a rich and interesting history, being a crossroad between different empires over many centuries. These periods with different rulers have influenced the city and left different architectural and cultural styles. We were also very lucky to be in town when an exciting art exhibition was there.
