There has been a little delay in getting this post out, due to some glitches in the site's email system. Chris quickly found himself out of his depth when he tried to fix it, but it is handy having a network engineer in the family (thanks Dom!). We seem to have resumed normal transmission, and are pleased we can share our trip to Lecce with you.
After finishing our tour through Greece, we boarded an overnight ferry to sail across the Adriatic, bound for Italy. We based ourselves in Lecce, one of the main cities in Puglia, in the heel of Italy's boot. Neither of us had been to this part of Italy before, and we discovered that it is very different to the areas we had been to in the north.
Lecce itself is a beautiful town, full of historic Baroque monuments. We managed a few day trips to take in some highlights of the fascinating Puglia region. We hope you enjoy visiting them with us. Let us know what you think by putting something in the comments section below.

Greece yesterday, Italy today, Croatia tomorrow… Makes my head spin just to think about it. I saw in one of the photos lunch served up a pizza for Chris and Jan had a pasta dish – very recognisably Italian dishes. How is the food fairing from one location to another ? Are they culturally distinct in this part of the world or are the menus all similar in their offerings?
The menus have been changing between countries, with some regional dishes appearing as well. It’s actually not common to find a wide variety of non-local restaurants. There are pizza places and gyros/souvalaki take away places everywhere, but it has been hard to find anything like Thai or Vietnamese. There are exceptions, like a nice pan-Asian place in Split where we had a Thai red curry, and a good Vietnamese Pho in Bucharest, but they are few and far between.
The biggest problem is that we are eating far too much, regardless of what is on offer! We’ve both put on weight, in spite of all the walking. That will need to be a priority to sort out when we get back home.
