Hello everyone.
We were due to fly to London on 21 April. 2020 to begin a 3-month adventure through Europe. But, like many thousands of others, we've had to cancel everything. Fortunately we've been able to get refunds or credits for almost everything.
Now our thinking turns towards what will replace it when travel begins again. The new destination will depend a lot on the timing, but at the time I write this in April we are thinking that the Australian summer may be a time we can plan for.
Two leading contenders at this stage are a winter in Europe or more trekking in South America, specifically Patagonia and the southernmost part of Chile. If long distance destinations are still off the menu, then one of the classic hikes in New Zealand or Tasmania or an Australian road trip could do the trick.
The next three months will tell us when we might be able to get away, but until then it's our opportunity to research the likely destinations.
Since everyone is staying home for a while, why not do some virtual travelling instead? You can relive some of our earlier trips at WalkTheWorld.blog
I've recently added three stories from our 2012 trip to Peru. Over three weeks we flew into Lima and used the ancient Inca capital of Cusco as a base to do a five-day trek in the Andes, stay at an eco-lodge in the Amazon basin and take a train south to Lake Titicaca and Arequipa.
Check them out via the links below.
We have plenty of time on our hands now, so we'll be adding the rest of the Peru trip along with a few others over the coming weeks. As timings for future travels become clearer we'll also start work on plans for our next big adventure.
We hope you are all staying safe in various versions of isolation.
Jan and Chris
