The next stop on our marvellous adventure is Istanbul, the age-old city where East meets West. The only city on earth that sits across two continents. Split by the Straights of Marmara, the eastern shore is in Asia, and the western parts of the city are in Europe.
For more than two thousand years, the trade routes between Asia and Europe have passed through this city, formerly known as Constantinople. Trade and commerce are still its beating heart, with endless colourful bazaars and shopfronts lining every street.
Istanbul is a lively, modern city that combines centuries of history with a palpable vibrancy. Definitely one of the great cities of the world, and a wonderful counterpoint to the wilderness experience we had just left behind in Jordan.
We hope you enjoy this taste of another part of our adventure

Did you see any of the cats in Istanbul that had two different colour eyes ?
Really great city
The food tour sounded fantastic.
When do guys come home ?
We saw plenty of cats, but didn’t look them in the eye 🙂
Still an open-ended return date, but probably about September next year. We are waiting for the outcome of a decision on when Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania join Schengen (the vote is today). Our original plan assumed that our time in these countries wouldn’t count towards the 90-day Schengen limit, but it will probably have to now, for Croatia at least. This will mean some juggling of the itinerary, and may change the planned end date as well.
